Government Reform Priorities and Goals

I am calling upon the state to look beyond Democratic and Republican talking points--to take pride and ownership in our government and tap into our state’s inventive spirit to achieve the protections our state and people deserve. Download the full plan.

As governor, I will bring an outside perspective, a willingness to break the mold and bring new faces, ideas and leadership to save taxpayers' money while delivering more and better services for every taxpayer dollar spent.

From day one, I will institute reforms that:

1.  Modernize government operations to improve customer service
2.  Streamline government operations with a focus on growing the economy and creating jobs

Modernize government operations to improve customer service

Since the great recession, we have all had to do more with less, including state government.  Citizens demand and deserve quality services for every taxpayer dollar spent.  As governor, I will direct my administration to prioritize the following issue areas:

  • Expand lean management principles and empower public employees
  • Reduce middle management
  • Improve state procurement
  • Improve government transparency through e-government
  • Transform government into a 21st century enterprise
  • Re-prioritize the governor's cabinet

Streamline government operations with a focus on growing the economy and creating jobs

I believe that our interactions with state government should be transparent, efficient, predictable, and timely.  As governor, I will direct state agencies to review how the state functions and reorganize to reflect present day priorities and technologies in the following areas:

  • Streamline government-business interactions
  • Streamline B&O tax collections
  • Improve collaboration among and between state agencies when considering site-location, state permit requirements and regulatory barriers
  • Reform regulatory and permitting processes
